Sacramento, CA —Governor Newsom’s recent comments on trade policy reflect a growing understanding of the stakes: the global economy is shifting, and California must lead—not wait—for solutions. While the federal government continues to grapple with outdated trade frameworks and fragmented tariff strategies, California has emerged as an anchor of economic resilience and innovation. Becoming the fourth-largest economy in the world didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of deliberate investments, bold leadership, and a commitment to long-term competitiveness.

But that success is not guaranteed. Ongoing disruptions have put our ports, logistics networks, and supply chain workforce under strain, with everyday Californians paying the price. California cannot afford to treat these systems as invisible. They are the backbone of our economy and central to its global leadership.

That’s why the Supply Chain Federation is urging Governor Newsom to establish a California Supply Chain Blue Ribbon Commission in partnership with our organization. Bringing together experts from labor, business, logistics, and technology, this Commission would develop a bold, actionable roadmap to strengthen California’s supply chain infrastructure by January 2026.

We believe this is not just an opportunity for California—it’s a model for the nation, which takes a strong partner committed to lead with swift and meaningful action. Governor Newsom has positioned California as that partner. The Supply Chain Federation stands ready to do the work because protecting our future starts with securing the systems that move it.
